December brings to a close the best-performing year of the decade, with most broad hedge fund industry measures showing performance of 20% or more.
With the hedge fund industry now experiencing positive capital flows, the ratio of new funds to closing funds also has turned positive.
With the strong returns of 2009, many hedge funds are now at or above their high-water marks, enabling them to once again earn incentive fees. Hedge Fund Research, Inc. reported that hedge funds experienced net capital inflows of $1.1 billion during the third quarter, the first such quarterly increase since the financial crisis hit.
